PINPOINT APRS ANDROID

It runs android auto for music, phone, and google maps. The phone mount on the left is for my regular cell phone which was used to take the picture. Here's a current pic of how I have the truck set up. That would allow a more private location sharing than blasting my callsign and location out on 144.390 for everyone with an internet connection to see where I am. My next experiment is going to be trying to push APRS packets on a different frequency for a simplex-only APRS mesh network. The screen uses a lot of battery power so a charging source is very useful. This is nice because the data cable uses the USB port so the phone can't be charged through that port. The juggernaut case is cool not only because its ruggedized and allows me to dismount the phone as a handheld GPS, it also interfaces with their wireless charging vehicle mount. The beauty of this is it doesn't require a cell signal so I can use it in true backcountry areas, or for stations that aren't transmitting to an i-gate. Every APRS packet that my radio receives gets routed through and shows up as an icon on the map so I can see real time where that station is. BCN Pro supports a bunch of different map overlays to include satellite imagery as well. I used a wifi connection to download a bunch of topo map coverage onto the phone. Backcountry Navigator Pro has a function that takes APRSdroid packets and displays them on the map.

APRSdroid is configured to receive the NMEA packets from the USB port. The USB-K5G programming cable connects to that COM port and on the other end has a USB-A to USB-C converter that plugs into the Galaxy S6. I configured the radio to output any received APRS packets through the COM port on the faceplate in NMEA format. The phone is basically just a screen to display the map and station locations. The D710 is doing all the APRS and GPS work with the internal GPS and TNC. I know aprs.fi does this and APRSdroid can do it, but both of those require an internet connection. I got my rig set up to overlay APRS stations on a map.
